Blogger Simon Owens is trying to start a social networking revolution, by declaring January 30th, “International Delete Your MySpace Account Day”. He’s angry at the spam, advertising and site glitches that waste time with his day. From what I’ve read, if Myspace isn’t listening, they should be.
I stumbled across the story while I was doing a little “digging”, and at the time of this posting, this story has accumulated 3400 diggs, and 366 comments – with the majority of the comments venting frustration at Myspace – many agreeing that Facebook isn’t much better.
People aren’t happy. What happens when consumers aren’t happy? They leave. Last time I checked, that wasn’t good for business. And yes, these are a few thousand in the swarm of millions, but what social networking gives, social networking can take away.
3400 people took the time to voice their displeasure with Myspace, in the course of one day. If they tell two friends, and they tell two friends – you get the picture. I think this is something that Myspace needs to get in front of, before they are “officially” the place that no one wants to be.
